Jason Lang Scholarship 2024: Requirements & How to Apply

The program was established in memory of Jason Lang, a 17-year-old high school student who was killed in a school shooting.  Jason Lang was known for his strong academic achievements and his love of learning. The program was created to honor his memory and encourage other students to pursue their education with the same dedication and passion that he had.

The GPA requirement for the scholarship is 3.20, which is the equivalent of a B or B+ average. To be eligible, students must have completed a minimum of 24.00 units of coursework. Students who receive the Jason Lang Scholarship must be enrolled full-time at an accredited post-secondary institution in Alberta during the fall and/or winter term. 

Alberta Student Aid will mail a cheque directly to the home address of eligible students who applied by September 30th, to be received in December. The Jason Lang Scholarship is funded by the Government of Alberta through the Ministry of Advanced Education. The University of Alberta administers the scholarship in collaboration with Alberta Student Aid.

  • You/your parent/partner must have maintained permanent residence in Alberta for at least 12 consecutive months immediately before commencing post-secondary studies.
  • You are expected to have achieved a minimum GPA of 3.2 on a 4.0 scale based on an 80% full course load in the previous terms.
  • You must be enrolled full-time in the second or subsequent year of an undergraduate degree program at a publicly funded Alberta post-secondary institution.
  • You must not be a recipient of the Louise Mckinney scholarship program.
  • You must not be enrolled in a 1-year certificate program.
  • Applicants must not have received 3 Jason Lang Scholarships.
  • Protected persons, including convention refugees, must submit a copy of their SIN (Social Insurance Number) card and the notice of decision or Verification of Status document (VOS).
  • Alberta Student Number (ASN) and Social Insurance Number (SIN) are generally required.

  • Print the form out since you are going to submit it offline.
